Wenatchee, Washington -- 12/20/2007
These days many people routinely judge
the quality of an enterprise by its Web site.

A bland, unorganized site could make one conclude that
the organization behind it is bland and unorganized. Web
sites are calling cards to the world.

The Web site the city has had since 1999 has not compared well
with the sites of other cities. It has lacked continuity and pertinent
information and often was out of date.

But on Wednesday, the city went live with a new site that
represents an overhaul from the prior version — the pages
are colorful, full of changing pictures, and information is
organized in the sort of "pull down" menu common to quality
information sites.

The site address has changed to http://www.wenatcheewa.gov
The old address was http://www.cityofwenatchee.org

Mayor Dennis Johnson said the souped-up site is critical to
drawing quality workers and businesses to Wenatchee —
those who go to the Web to get an impression of the community.

"It's absolutely critical that we have this to be competitive,"
he said.

The project has taken more than a year and cost about $75,000,
said Dale Cantrell, the city's information services director.

Cantrell said the site is designed so that no matter what a
surfer may be looking for, they can find it in three clicks or less.

"Hopefully it will help citizens interact better with City Hall,"
Cantrell said.

Other new features include: online bill paying, a calendar of city
meetings and events, a forum to report problems of any sort —
say a pothole on your street — and a newsletter service to inform
subscribers about city happenings. There is also a new Spanish-
language section, which is not yet functional.

Re: City Launches New $75,000 Web Site

$75,000 for a web site? - Less get real.........
Sounds like someone is suckering the city of
Wenatchee out of money and Wow thats alot.

As a webmaster of my genesbmx.com web site for 12 years
on the world wide web and a life time citizen of Wenatchee,
Im sorry to say but $75,000 for the City Of Wenatchees web
site, The City Of Wenatchee got ripped off big time on this one.

Dont get me wrong, the new web site lay out and URL looks nice
and all but for $75,000 that web site best be trimmed with gold.
As fare as I can see this new web site is not trimmed with gold
it is not much more than a basic web site layout shell that if any
one that is in to building a web site was to look they could find
many layouts almost like this new one in free web page layouts
if they was to surf the web and look some. It does not take much
to build a web site or page on the world wide web no matter what
kind of content the web site is or will be hosting for the world to see.

It is nice to see the City Of Wenatchee trying to keep up on the
world wide web, But it does NOT cost anyone $75,000 to rebuild
or build a web site layout and get a new URL name on the web.
If it really cost that much money $75,000 to build a web site on
the web I dont think I would have a web site out there today.

It costs me at genesbmx.com about $280.00 a year to have
my web site out on the world wide web. It dont cost no $75,000.
Gene`s BMX website and pages are customized & made with,
Hypertext Markup Language - known as HTML code (Advanced)

When making my web site or web pages I make my web site and pages,
With My Owen, Original Template Framework Layout - Freestanding &
Freehand Code, I type in the HTML code and text, key stroke by key
stroke, Absolute URL. All inline with The World Wide Web Consortium
( W3C) develops and technologies.

The http://www.wenatcheewa.gov I have to ask where is the Absolute URL?
When you click a link to pages on that site the URL address is all
mucked up with aspx in the links showing that it is a fast build page.
I ask where is Wenatchee`s pride in making something for the
for the community. For that much money absolute URL should be
seen in all of the URL`s via all of the pages it lists.

What does Absolute URL look like?
( Absolute URL = h t t p: // w w w. something.gov / park.info.html )
This giving a web surfer knowlegment on to what they are surfing in to.

Here is what the new wenatcheewa.gov web site pages look like:
( h t t p: // w w w. wenatcheewa.gov/Index.aspx?page=31 )
This giving a web surfer knowlegment of Confusion to what they
are surfing in to.

As a life time citizen of Wenatchee and a long time webmaster,
Im going to say to the City Of Wenatchee, Get are MONEY back
from who ever you paid that much too. --- You got ripped off!

I know we do have some pride in this town but it dont look like
we do with the citys new $75,000 web site. I dont know about
others but I want to see some gold on that web site for that
much money. $75,000 for a web site? Wow, Next thing we will
here that water lines and roads need to be fixed but there is no
money to do so. But we have $75,000 for a web site that could
have been built for FREE! or close to free if the city would have
taken a little time on learning about the world wide web and how
it is built and works. As a citizen of Wenatchee, It is somewhat
embarrassing knowing that are officials got us all suckered out
of the $75,000 for a web site. But hay, that is are government...

Come on City Of Wenatchee, you all can do much better than this.
