Kirsten Dellar has been selected to compete for Australia
in cycling and BMX at this year’s Youth Olympic Games in
Singapore in August.

Kirsten is reigning Junior Australian BMX Champion and has
been selected in the Australian team for July’s BMX World
Championships in South Africa.

She said her training had veered from BMX to road cycling
and mountain biking because that was where the opportunities
were to compete.

But she had to develop her endurance
skills to compete in the road time trial.

“BMX is more of a sprint but the road race is like you
get on your bike and just ride for 35 minutes,” she said.

“I’m doing a lot of endurance riding with a group on Saturday
mornings and I also have mountain bike skills training.

“But the BMX training helps a bit in terms of mountain
biking skills.”

Her ultimate aim is to compete on the
world stage at the Olympics in 2012 or 2016.

The Youth Olympic Games will bring together about
3600 of the world’s talented young athletes aged 14 to 18.

The Australian Olympic Committee selects the team.
